BRASS ON GRASS 2011

The village of Constantine is preparing for a busy weekend of musical entertainment when the Constantine Silver Band celebrate 30 years of their annual Brass on Grass weekend.

This is a most popular weekend event in the Band’s busy Calendar year and begins on the Saturday evening of July 16th at 7.30pm. For this year’s concert we have the very popular Nankersey Male Voice Choir, Constantine School Choirs, Friends in Harmony, Constantine Silver Band plus the junior band all providing a varied evening of singing and music. The compere for the concert is the very popular Arthur Moyle.

This evening sets the mood for the most entertaining event in the Band’s year as they stage the much awaited original Brass On Grass evening, to be held on 17th July where the bands parade through the village at 6.30 for the concert that starts at 7.00. This will be the 30th Brass On Grass and is the highlight for many supporters who have attended all the evenings since it began in 1981.

This hugely popular event has given much pleasure and enjoyment to a large section of the Community who have enjoyed the wide variations of numerous Band’s over the past years.

The Chairman (Mr. Down) is anticipating a very special evening of musical entertainment as we have some ofthe best Bands not only in Cornwall but in the South West, Camborne Town, Helston Town and St Keverne, who will each play their own programme,joining together along with Constantine players for the finale’ with a spectacular Massed Band rendition.

The evening provjdes music of a variety which has something for everyone. Compere for the evening is the very knowledgeable and very popular Mr. Phillip Hunt of Radio Cornwall’s Sound of Brass.

Both events will be held in the marquee on the recreation ground.

Parking is free. Access for disabled persons.

Admissions, £3.50 Saturday and £7.00 on Sunday. Children accompanied by an adult £1

 

BAND NEWS 2011

After 2 years without a conductor we find our fortunes in 2011 have improved with the appointment of Lorna Wrycraft who is a B. A. (Hons) music student in her third year at Dartington College of Arts which is now resited at Tremough where Constantine Band will be part of her final year project and she looks forward to leading the band. Lorna has also a very active banding history playing and running bands in the South East and Western area.

Our youth group continues to grow and improve, and at present we have 23 very keen youngsters plus two mums and a granddad in our training section with some now moving into the band. Fourteen from our youth group entered the Cornwall County Music Festival at Truro wining second place in their section. We are all now looking forward to our summer season, and celebrating our 30th year of Brass on Grass on the 17th July with our guests Camborne Town, Helston Town and St Keverne bands.
