Gone Paddling – Falmouth to Falmouth via John O’Groats

James Croftson
In April 2010 James Croftson pushed out from the pontoon at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth, and set out to paddle his sea kayak clockwise around mainland Britain. 138 days later, having succeeded in “keeping the land on the right” for over 2200 miles, he made the short hop across Carrick Roads and landed back at the museum’s pontoon, with a beard significantly longer than when he left. This talk and slide show will be a whistle-stop tour around the country, involving stolen kayaks, the MOD, bomb squads, killer whales and the unbelievable generosity of complete strangers.
