TOUCH theatre | Gweek Players

This outstanding piece of drama was running on the main stage of the National Theatre starring Maxine Peake until lockdown intervened.

Both funny, bawdy and at times bleak, the play, set in the 18th century, but with a very modern tone, tells the story of Sally Poppy, who has been convicted of murder but who seeks to avoid hanging by declaring that she is pregnant. To assess her claim, the judge calls a jury of twelve women, and their deliberations are at the core of the drama. It is a serious play about women’s rights and roles, but there is a bawdy, raunchy humour (usually directed at men!) which punctuates the more serious themes. Tickets are available from from 1 June.

The Odd Folk

The best folk band you’ve never heard of…” say the Guardian; a collection of multi-instrumentalists who swap styles as often as they swap instruments. A “passionately ramshackle” quintet playing their own brand of “triumphant folk” while journeying around Europe in a vintage Renault 4. Equally at home on the main stage or the corner of an old barn, the boys treat each gig with the same gusto, bringing you their high octane, theatrical stories and songs in a journey through just about every genre of music.

Pre-show cafe meals (if permitted) must be booked in advance by phoning 01326 340630.
